The Philadelphia Harp Society is sponsoring a student competition to be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the "McCoy Center" of the Ancillae-Assumpta Academy, 2025 Church Road, Wyncote, PA, (Snow date, Saturday March 2, 2013.) Winners must be available to perform in a concert on Saturday March 9, 2013 (location and time TBD). The top three harpists in each division will be awarded prizes. (Information about prizes will be posted here soon.)

Students may compete in one of four categories based on their age and type of harp. Harpists age 14 and under on Jan. 1, 2013, are eligible for the junior division; harpists age 18 and under on Jan. 1, 2013, may compete in the senior division. Students may compete in either the pedal harp or lever harp division. Harpists may compete in only one division. Students must play all the pieces listed for their division. All music must be performed from memory. (Please note that the competition reserves the right to eliminate a division if not enough entries are received.)

Winners must submit an application form including teacher’s signature, entry fee of $30, and a copy of the contestant’s birth certificate must be received by January 1, 2013. Scroll to the bottom of this page to download the application form.

Both the harpist and the harpist’s teacher must be members of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Harp Society to enter the competition. Both student and teacher must join by January 1, 2013, to be eligible for the competition.

Winners of the 2013 Student Competition must be available to perform in a Winners Concert on March 9, 2013.
